Melanie JS is the street artist 7th pencil, best known for creating oversized works in potent complimentary colour palettes, using spray paint, emulsion and acrylics. She is a Multidisciplinary Artist creating murals, canvas, digital and sculptural works.
Hailing from rural devon, nature has an important symbolism as a source of healing, beauty and freedom. Using real people as her references she seeks to represent her experience of growing up as a neurodivergent woman in the 90’s and 00’s. Challenging the facades we use daily and look deeper into the hidden parts of ourselves.
She uses flowers as a metaphor for feminine beauty and normality, the personally damaging stereotypes of societal pressure and being ‘ladylike’. These paired with real portraits of women using intense colours speak to the polarity and disconnect of what you see and what is felt by the artist.
The work embodies the strength, resilience and optimism she has used to navigate life to this point. She often receives evidence that her work inspires others to keep going and make it through to better moments. This creates a deep connection with her audience and keeps sharing vulnerabilities to help people feel less alone in the world.
She is an active member of London based art collectives such as Matchbox and Wom collective.
Key passions include Mental Health awareness, Neurodivergent awareness, Women’s rights, Human rights and Animal rights.

Ourside Youth Centre
I was blown away at the how Mel engaged and encouraged the young people to share confidently what they wanted in the design, she really took time to genuinely appreciate their thoughts, insights and emotions, valuing the narrative behind the design and installation.
Mel is calm and passionate all rolled in to one, her nurturing and supportive nature really set a safe space for the young people to thrive.
There was a real buzz when Mel shared her magnificent design with the young people, a real sense of pride for the young people to see their own designs and contributions to discussion encapsulated in something so special.
The Youth Shelter looks awesome and recently the young people, Mel and the wider community celebrated at the Shelter taking time to acknowledge the positivity and the impact of the project.
This has been one of the most meaningful projects the youth centre has ever been involved in and stuff that goosebumps are made of. We are so grateful for Mel and the opportunity to work with her, we cannot wait to get the next project under way.

Graffiti Artist at Printwear & Promotion Exhibition 2025
Mel brought an incredible energy to the Printwear & Promotion Exhibition in Birmingham from February 23-25, 2025. Her live graffiti art on shirts was impressive - turning blank canvases into vibrant, unique pieces right before our eyes. Not only is she a highly skilled artist, but she also engaged with visitors in a professional and friendly manner, making the experience even more special. Watching her create in real-time was inspiring, and her ability to connect with the audience truly set her apart. A huge thank you to Mel for her fantastic work!
